A Writer’s Journey!

Morning Folks!

Last weekend I took a break from my normal routine, my efforts trying to get to know you, and you me.

For those of you that have ordered coupons for my e-books to send to friends and family for Christmas, thank you. I am overwhelmed by your support and the response. If you didn’t get your order in yet, please do so as soon as convenient. We are already quite backed up. We have to manually bill you through PayPal then email the coupons or mail/post them, it takes a while. For details email me.

Back to my journey, two weeks ago I left you here.

“Talk about culture shock! I was in North Africa. We loaded up with supplies and started up the steep slopes of the Atlas Mountains. We reached the summit, in front of us to the south, spread the Sahara desert. Heat, endless sand, flat tires, cruelty beyond compare, hunger and Nomads awaited.”
I gazed out over the shimmering desert. I had fantasized about Africa for years, now here I was, more than a little petrified. Through the middle of the Sahara, an asphalt/black top road meandered south, slithering off like a black mamba into the distance.

Behind me the bazaars, the pickpockets and the unique aromas of Algiers. In front of me the unknown. Sand, scorpions, teenage “soldier” border guards armed with AK-47’s and many other surprises.

It had never occurred to me to research whether their was a road through the Sahara or how far it went. I was soon to find out….. not very far. I descended the Atlas Mountains, as I reached sand, the brisk pre-dawn chill of the desert soon burned off. Heat soon overwhelmed me. At the base of the mountain I pulled over, not needing to wretch with fear, as you might imagine, but to admire the majesty of nature.

I had a map and a compass. No GPS, no cell phone and no air conditioning. My destination for this first leg of my adventure Tamanrasset, 1500 kilometres or 1000 miles to the south. Do you know how many Gas/Petrol stations there are in the Sahara? Neither did I, but I was soon to find out!

As I am here to write this note, I did in fact make it! AND I am meeting some of the most fabulous people along the way. Punters from my old stomping grounds in the Uk to an old Girlfriend in Cape Town. (I wished she was more girlfriend than friend, but I sure did miss out there!)

More next week. Guess where scorpions LOVE to hang out after a night feasting on bugs?

Feel free to share. Your friends and family can download a FREE copy of Part 1 of The Arrows of Islam, here.

Thank you for joining our Readers Group!

Have a super weekend.

Best wishes,

Spencer
